True Confession

Like many fellow artist friends, I haven't made millions yet in my art business. Meanwhile, I'm paying monthly or yearly for email services, Skillshare, web hosting, domain names, and more to run this little business of mine.

I try to keep my business entirely self sufficient, never taking money from the family budget to buy supplies, classes, or pay for all the things mentioned above. Much of the money I make goes to cover these monthly or yearly subscriptions needed in running a business, not leaving much for more supplies.

This is all to say, I have fallen into the trap of getting cheap art supplies from Temu more than once. True confession: My favorite thing to buy on Temu is stencils. Well NO MORE!

The other day I was reading a newsletter from a fellow artist and she shared that Temu had stolen a well known artist's designs and created cheap stencils with them. I had heard this before, but didn't have any real proof they were actually doing this. Now that I know, I can't go forward buying things from them in good conscience.

Furthermore, the stencils I received were cheap, bent, and broke easily. NOT worth the money.

So, Right here, right now, I'm vowing NOT to buy from Temu anymore. Will you take this vow as well?

Let's not support any business with this type of practice!

Artist designed stencils cost more money because they deliver much higher quality, not to mention the integrity of the design.

When purchasing stencils, let's support real artists, get good quality, and sleep better at night!
