Trending 'Maximalist Florals" and something we need to say more often.....

Hello Reader,

In this newsletter you'll find:

Maximalism: a trending trend

A new card design: SAY THANK YOU!

An In-Person Class offering

Maximalism Trend

This is trending, but it's not just florals.

It's combining different patterns, colors, textures, and scale, intentionally for an overall curated and unified look.

What it is:

'more is more' philosophy

bold colors

rich textures

multiple patterns

playing with scale

curated

unified

What it is not:

chaotic

cluttered

This trend is showing up in interiors, wedding, surface design, etc.

I found a fantastic article on how it is appearing in interiors:

check out the article on Architectural Digest

I love when a trend matches my art style! I create in vibrant bold colors and crazy combos of made up florals. The line work or additions of inks in marks and tiny art unify the pieces. These are usually favorites. Here are some of my paintings that I now know to call "Maximalist Florals" or "Maximalist gardens":

Zoom in and check out all of the hidden details! I like to hide little words in there sometimes.

These pieces translate really well to surface design. Here are some of the products I created with these bold pieces of art:

We all should say "Thank You" more often!

Because I've niched down to greeting cards now, I'm super focused on creating cards in various categories for my POD sites and for licensing.

I was low on 'Thank You' cards so I took my latest maximalist floral design (the yellow one) and Made this beautiful card (hand lettered of course!):

Don't we all have someone to thank? I can think of three people right now whom I would love to send this card to in the mail to thank them for their kindness, their help, etc.

I order these in sets of 10 so I always have a thank you card on hand for when I think to send one. Otherwise, it becomes too hard and the thankful thought gets buried in the everyday mundane and the person misses out on the joy of opening their mailbox to actual REAL personal mail.

Book an Art Party!

Can you think of anything better?

If you live anywhere on the Kitsap Peninsula, this is for you.

The way this works is, I will come to YOU in your own home and bring all of the supplies for card making.

You just invite a few friends, pick the date and time you want to do it, and we will play art together!

I can almost guarantee you'll have fun and be inspired to do more even after I leave, because that is the typical (and my favorite) feedback.

So, invite your friends, make a pot of coffee, a batch of mimosas, mocktails, cocktails, wine or ales, and I'll set your table, but with art supplies.

Current Project Offering - Everyone walks away with 4 hand painted cards to give away (or frame!)

Do you see these smiles? They just played art and it nourished their souls.

That's all for now friends, I hope you are staying healthy and playing art!

Remember, ART IS GOOD FOR YOU!

Hello Reader, Happy Memorial Day! Today I'm in our camper writing this newsletter as my husband cares for our 14 year old who has an awful stomach bug. I can't handle this sort of thing, so my husband whooshed me out of the house to the camper and I am ever so grateful for him! I have recently shared that I've started offering art classes where I come to YOU. This is the way to go because it's in the comfort of your own home, with your own food / beverage choices, and your own friends or...

Hello Reader, I've been noticing a little uprising, a little slap in AI's face if you will. REAL mail, hand written correspondence, and handmade cards/postcards are having a moment. Friends, I'm talking real pens with real ink on real paper in your real handwriting. In this time where AI (artificial intelligence like Claude, chat GPT, and so many more) is taking over a LOT of the things we used to do with our own hands, the hand written or hand painted items are becoming more and more unique...

this is a Mother's Day card with watercolor florals and it says, "Mom, thanks for growing me so well"

Hello Reader, One often needs a little help with what to write in their Mother's Day cards, so I thought I'd share with you two links today that I found helpful: # 1 This one is by Good Housekeeping and has a nice little 'Jump to" section that looks like this: 100 Best Mother's Day Wishes #2 Here is another good one that includes many of the different categories like, "to mother-in-law funny", and "like a mom to me", and "To Godmother" and "mom to be", and a LOT more. What to Write in a...
