A little inspiration for you today....

Hello Reader,

Happy Memorial Day!

Today I'm in our camper writing this newsletter as my husband cares for our 14 year old who has an awful stomach bug. I can't handle this sort of thing, so my husband whooshed me out of the house to the camper and I am ever so grateful for him!

I have recently shared that I've started offering art classes where I come to YOU. This is the way to go because it's in the comfort of your own home, with your own food / beverage choices, and your own friends or family.

Here's what went on during a class this weekend (we had SO MUCH FUN):

Mixed Media Card Class

Here's how it worked

Kelly, the organizer, saw my class offering on-line and asked her co-workers if they'd be interested in doing it together and the answer was a resounding "YES!".

Kelly booked the class on my website and paid the total and then the 5 of them split the total between them and they each paid Kelly their share.

Karen, the hostess, offered to host the class at her house, and everyone came with a snack to share plus wine. Yes, wine!

It was like a girls night, but it was afternoon and there was art supplies to play with.

I honestly can't think of anything better!

Class Pics

We sat down right away and got to work on the first part of the class, creating the backgrounds for the cards.

While the backgrounds dried, they got snacks and beverages and visited while I prepped for the next step: creating focal points for our cards. What a lovely way to enjoy a class!

Here are some fun pics of the ladies working on their focal points, I learned so much from them! I offer a WIDE range of options for this, from stamping, to tracing, to complete artist choice of course!

The joy of playing art with others is that we get to see where someone else takes a project, our brains are so unique!

Here's what the 'organizer' had to say about the class:

A Little Inspiration

Do you have a difficult time throwing things away? Well, sometimes that pays off!

I was cleaning my art desk off the other day and there were these paper towels that I had used to dab my brush off during a watercolor project. They were so pretty I couldn't part with them. As I cleaned, I also came across some delicate paper cut outs of butterflies and feathers, etc. and the idea was born.

I separated the two ply paper towels and glued one ply onto an old book page to make it sturdy. It was already a lovely piece, but then I glued one of my delicate paper butterflies (link below so you can get some, too!) onto it and cut it out.

I added black and white striped tissue paper as a background (which I saw my friend almost throw out the other day after shopping and saved it from the bin!) along with a single ply of a napkin that had gold confetti on it, and then finally the butterfly.

I absolutely LOVE the way it turned out and already gave it out as a birthday card. This means it's time to make some more!

GUESS WHAT?!

I'm Officially a Licensed Surface Designer for Greeting Cards!

I am thrilled to report that on my son's 14th birthday, May 21st, I received my very first contract with a greeting card company. They chose two of my designs for their 2027 card line.

This means you might actually see my work in stores!

Here are the two they chose so you can keep your eyes peeled!

I'm now more motivated than ever to make card art and pitch to more companies.

If you are interested in doing the same, I would highly recommend Michele Frusciano's "Greeting Card Academy". I took it and look where it got me!

Michele was once an Art Director for a greeting card company AND she now licenses her own art with greeting card companies so she knows the biz from both sides.

That's all for now friends, I hope you are staying healthy and playing art!

Remember, ART IS GOOD FOR YOU!

Hello Reader, I've been noticing a little uprising, a little slap in AI's face if you will. REAL mail, hand written correspondence, and handmade cards/postcards are having a moment. Friends, I'm talking real pens with real ink on real paper in your real handwriting. In this time where AI (artificial intelligence like Claude, chat GPT, and so many more) is taking over a LOT of the things we used to do with our own hands, the hand written or hand painted items are becoming more and more unique...
